245 - Holding the “new” Queen’s Park accountable

November 30, 2011
Now that the dust has settled on the recent provincial election, your CFIB representatives at Queen's Park are already at work to protect your livelihood.

244 - Pension Tension campaign launched

September 27, 2011
In June 2012, the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) will undergo a major review. Seven provinces, the unions as well as the official opposition are pushing for a CPP hike in one form or another. Even the federal government’s 2011 budget leaves the door open to a potential hike in this job-killing payroll tax.

243 - CFIB is 40. Let’s celebrate!

June 2, 2011
What a difference 40 years makes! Before CFIB, small- and medium-sized businesses were a mere afterthought in the minds of political leaders, government bureaucrats, bankers, educators, journalists and others. Now, in 2011, the entrepreneurial sector is considered a priority by decision makers, having grown to represent close to half of the Canadian economy.

242 - 2011 Ontario election - Making your voice count!

March 3, 2011
With months to go before the next provincial election (October 6, 2011), you recently told us that provincial policies are making it harder for you to run your business. Aside from energy costs and the HST, you also pointed to hikes in payroll taxes (WSIB) and the minimum wage as having had the biggest impact. Accordingly, you asked CFIB to convey to the politicians the issues that will be most important to how you cast your ballot in October.

241 - CFIB wins huge victory on Employment Insurance

December 1, 2010
Due to the economic downturn, the Employment Insurance (EI) account was in a multi-billion dollar deficit that could have been avoided had a surplus of $57 billion not been spent on other priorities. To deal with this deficit, the government planned to increase EI rates to their maximum levels - $0.15 for employees per $100 of earnings and $0.21 for employers - over the next three years.

240 - Are you ready to take a pay cut?

September 1, 2010
CFIB is actively lobbying government to rethink its planned Employment Insurance (EI) payroll tax hikes come 2011. Our research has found that if the federal government moves forward with its plans to increase EI rates to pay for the additional costs associated with EI during 2009/2010, then EI premiums will increase by almost 35% over the next four years.

239 - Ontario Budget delivers little… but tax relief stays!

June 2, 2010
For a document billed as, Ontario’s Plan for Jobs and Growth, there was little to nothing for small businesses in the recent Ontario Budget. The half-hearted 8-year plan to balance the budget will increase the provincial debt to nearly $270 billion by 2014; up from $193 billion today.

237 - Happy Holidays to our members

December 2, 2009
Businesses like yours have been this country’s stabilizing force and without your determination, hard-work, and resiliency Canada would not have fared as well as it has this past year. And, while you’ve been busy retaining and creating employment in your communities, we at CFIB have been tirelessly raising the issues that matter to you most at all levels of government.
