CFIB continues to successfully fight on your behalf to help your business grow
Taxes: CFIB’s founding victory in 1971, the small business corporate tax rate, remains the most important single tax measure for SMEs into the 21st Century.
Employment Insurance: CFIB has been the undisputed leader on EI issues for over 10 years. Ongoing media visibility, political pressure and numerous campaigns have generated over 150,000 political action faxes over the years. Our members know that profit-insensitive taxes kill jobs and inhibit growth.
Red Tape and Paper Burden: The amount of red tape and regulation facing small business is our members’ #2 concern. The time spent as unpaid tax collectors is time NOT spent growing their businesses. Fines and administrative penalties resulting from complexity are disproportionately severe.
Planning Your Retirement: CFIB members self-finance their retirement through savings and the sale of their businesses. CFIB won the initial $500,000 Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption (LCGE) in 1987 after 15 years of lobbying. In 1994, our action campaign saved it from elimination by a government looking for revenue to balance its budget with a $30 billion deficit.
Shortage of Qualified Labour: As the population ages, many members are foregoing expansion opportunities due to their inability to find qualified employees. CFIB long struggled to convince policy makers that job training credits need to be targeted at the job creators in today’s economy—small business. We are beginning to be heard.
