Jim Ball is CEO and owner (since 1985) of Reliance Insurance Agencies Ltd., Black Gavin & Co., Pacific Marine Underwriting Managers Ltd., and Baker, Russell & Ledgerwood Ltd., all in BC and Harbour Insurance Services in Ontario. The Reliance Group (35 employees) specializes in commercial insurance for manufacturing, distribution, technology, agribusiness, automobile, professional services and marine pleasure craft.
His previous positions include: Claims Adjuster (Investigated, negotiated and settled vehicle and products liability injury claims; Architects and Engineers Errors and Omissions Claims); Senior Claims Examiner (ie., supervised the investigation and settlement of high reserve property and liability claims assigned to independent adjusting firms; Reinsurance Underwriter (ie., underwrote a portfolio of international and domestic treaty reinsurance; participated in pro-rata, surplus and excess of loss treaties for all major classes of insurance including property, automobile, aviation and marine); Marketing Representative (ie., recruited, appointed and underwrote personal lines and commercial lines property and liability insurance for a territorial sales force of 30 brokerages in Eastern Ontario and Ottawa; Western Regional Manager (ie., managed a regional office that serviced the property and liability insurance needs of contracted brokerages in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon.; Head Office Marketing Manager (ie., managed the marketing set up and development of the head office, two branch offices and a network of insurance brokerages in the four western provinces, for a start up Vancouver based commercial insurer.
