Building Prosperity for the Future
An SME perspective on productivity in Atlantic Canada
"Doing more with less" is the message that was revealed in our latest report Building Prosperity for the Future.
The second report in a series on the future of Atlantic Canada, this report provides a unique examination of productivity from the perspective of smaller businesses. The findings indicate that small businesses plan to boost productivity and efficiency by making investments in three key areas: capital assets, technology and people.
Faced with an aging population, the outmigration of young people and low immigration levels, the region's small businesses need good public policy to help boost productivity. This report makes a number of policy recommendations such as:
- reducing tax and regulatory burdens
- encouraging and rewarding workplace training
- removing interprovincial barriers to the flow of people and business activities
This report follows The Future of Atlantic Canada: Dealing with the Demographic Drought which was released in October 2009.
