CFIB Business Resource Counsellors – We’re here when you need us!
If you don't know where to turn for answers or guidance, we're here to help. CFIB Business Resource Counsellors are here to give you advice, and provide you with information on all types of issues of concern to small business.
Access to this service is a major resource available free of charge to all CFIB members. All Business Resource records remain strictly confidential.
Here are just a few examples of real questions that we have helped answer in the past:
- My employee quit without giving notice: do I still have to pay vacation time?
- What is the maximum allowed in small claims court?
- What are the hour restrictions for employees under age 16?
- Where should I go to get certification for mechanics?
- What is the best way to escalate a problem I have with my bank?
- Do I have to pay EI premiums for my wife, who works side by side with me?
- What can I do to stop these telemarketing calls?
If you require specialized or specific information that goes beyond our mandate, we will refer you to the people in your area who can best help you.
What we cannot do: We cannot give accounting advice and we cannot give legal advice. The advice of a good accountant or lawyer is crucial to the well-being and survival of your business. Any matter that requires the technicalities of legal or tax advice should, therefore, be referred to a professional.

Our Business Resource Counsellors will be happy to help out!
