Report to Standing Committee on Economic Development
A Private Member's Bill (An Act to Amend the Retail Business Holidays Act) has passed in the Legislative Assembly now allowing for year-round Sunday shopping in Prince Edward Island.
Under the new rules, retail businesses will be permitted to open on Sundays after 12noon throughout the year. The only mandatory retail closing days will be the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Islander Day
- Good Friday
- Labour Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Remembrance Day
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
The new changes are in keeping with recommendations made by the Standing Committee on Economic Development which held public hearing on Sunday shopping in 2007-2008.
