2011-2012 New Brunswick budget: We want balanced budget by prioritizing spending!

We constantly meet with government and opposition parties to present your views on issues that impact your business. The months leading up to the budget are especially busy because the budget is the document that provides the direction for the province for the year - and often sets the tone for years to come.

We met with Minister Higgs in a private meeting on January 18, 2011 as well as attended the pre-budget stakeholders' meeting in Moncton. We discussed what we want to see in the upcoming budget, based on what you have told us through our face-to-face meetings, our surveys and your calls to our office. Not only have we walked through our survey results, we also presented the suggestions you provided on how the province can cut costs as our reckless spending over the past decade has brought us to the point we are at now. We handed the Minister over 25 pages of written comments and suggestions.

This year, we are asking government to acknowledge small business in the upcoming budget by addressing the issues that are important to you:

  • Presenting a balanced budget, through a serious prioritizing of spending.
  • Restraining future government spending to population growth plus inflation.
  • Reduce red tape for business and individuals as a non-expensive way to stimulate the economy
  • Align the public and private sector wages and benefits
