Agri-Business Takes Farm Safety Seriously
Farm safety is top-of-mind for Alberta’s agribusiness membership. In fact, a recent Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) survey on farm safety found that 83 per cent of CFIB’s agri-business owners rate their
knowledge of farm safety as good to excellent.
CFIB asked its Alberta agri-business owners’ views on what role and responsibility various parties should play in ensuring workplace safety. Eighty-five per cent of agri-business members felt employers hold the primary responsibility for workplace health and safety. A further eight per cent believe it to be a secondary responsibility. It is important to consider that the majority (58 per cent) felt managers and supervisors have a primary responsibility for safety.
Employees are also viewed as having a large role in ensuring safety in the workplace, with 41 per cent indicating employees should have a primary responsibility for safety.
Alberta agri-businesses take farm safety seriously and these employers value the lives and well-being of their employees. Many agribusiness owners and their immediate family members work side-by-side with their farm workers on a daily basis. It is in their best interest to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
