Anti-Spam Legislation must not stop legitimate small businesses from expanding!

In a letter sent to the Minister of Industry and the Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism, CFIB pushes the government to make sure the new "anti-spam" law still allows for legitimate business dealings, with new regulations and rules communicated stated in clear language.

The goal of Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (also known as Bill C-28) is to minimize "spam telecommunications". CFIB supports this goal, but we also know that many small businesses such as realtors, financial consultants and lawyers use positive referrals to grow their businesses. This is traditional word-of-mouth advertising. Unfortunately, the anti-spam law places undue burdens on such referrals, which effectively eliminates them as a legitimate business tool.
