Entrepreneurs top the list of respect for Atlantic Canadians
Entrepreneurs top the list of respect for Atlantic Canadians while government sits at the bottom. This is one of the many findings of public opinion polls commissioned by CFIB, in partnership with Hewlett-Packard and Intel to celebrate CFIB's 40th anniversary and 2011 as the Year of the Entrepreneur.
Atlantic Canadians know that small business is vital to their community. In Atlantic Canada, 95 per cent say as much; in addition 90 per cent say small business is important to Canada's future. And we see our entrepreneurs contribute in a number of different ways in our communities - employers, service-providers, role models and leaders. Despite the admiration that Atlantic Canadians have for our job creators, they understand that small business owners face huge challenges.
Additional survey findings include:
- 81% of Atlantic Canadians believe the economy is powered by entrepreneurs.
- 73% of Atlantic Canadians do not believe that the school system puts a strong enough emphasis on entrepreneurship as a career option;
- 84% believe governments undervalue the contribution of entrepreneurs and small business in Canada;
