New premier outlines her vision for entrepreneurship

Small businesses are not just the backbone of the economy, they are the heart and soul of our communities. So it's vitally important our political leaders are clear on where they stand on the future of entrepreneurship in Alberta.

A survey of CFIB members from Oct 2010 revealed 97% said it was "very important" for the provincial government to have a vision that supports entrepreneurship. But only 3% were "very confident" and 43% "somewhat confident" the Alberta government actually has that vision.

With that in mind, we surveyed all six candidates vying for the leadership of the governing Progressive Conservative Party, including now-premier Alison Redford, about what each would do to better support small business. The survey asked ten questions about overall vision for the future of entrepreneurship in Alberta, sustainable government spending, a long-term savings strategy, tax relief, cutting red tape, new municipal taxation powers, and labour shortages.

The new Premier's answers reveal a number of small-business friendly policies, but also a few worrisome ones too, such as her support for giving municipal governments more power to generate new revenue. Read her survey responses and decide for yourself.
