Senior Vice-President, Legislative Affairs

Dan Kelly currently serves as Senior Vice-President, Legislative Affairs for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) in Ottawa. In this position, Dan oversees CFIB's national and provincial legislative and communications functions. As a senior spokesperson for CFIB, Dan Kelly represents the Federation's views to politicians, government, the media and other groups. Among many policy files, Dan currently leads CFIB's efforts on the shortage of labour and undertook major studies on immigration policy and training in small business. Recently, Dan played a major part in CFIB's successful campaign to establish a Code of Conduct for the credit and debit card industry in Canada. Dan currently serves on the Advisory Committee to the Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. Outside of Canada, Dan has represented Canadian small businesses at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva and is presently serving as secretary to the International Small Business Congress (ISBC).

In 2009, Dan relocated to Ottawa after spending nearly a decade in Calgary as CFIB's Western Vice-President. While in Alberta, Dan was named as one of the province's 50 most influential people by Alberta Venture Magazine.

Dan began his 18 year career with CFIB in Winnipeg as the Federation's Director of Provincial Affairs in Manitoba. Prior to joining CFIB, Dan served as a policy advisor to the Premier of Manitoba. In this capacity, Dan gained a great deal of knowledge on the legislative and political functions of government - specializing in rural development, transportation and economic matters.

Dan was born and raised in Winnipeg and attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Immediately following university, Dan spent a year living and teaching in northern Japan.

Dan and his wife Nylia live in Ottawa with their young son Kennedy.
