Richard Fahey is Senior Vice-President, Strategic Development. In this position Richard serves as key strategist on the national level and oversees major business growth initiatives for CFIB. Mr. Fahey is a member of the Executive and Operations Committees. As a senior bilingual spokesperson for CFIB, Richard Fahey represents the Federation's views to politicians, government, business, the media and other groups.
From June 2001 to April 2007, Richard Fahey acted as Quebec Vice-President for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Representing 24,000 members in Quebec and more than 105,000 members across Canada, CFIB is a non-partisan, non-profit organization financed entirely by its members and its policy positions are based on the votes and surveys of its members. From April to December 2007, Richard acted as Interim General Manager overseeing CFIB's Quebec sales force composed of 55 District Managers who, on average, meet weekly with 800 business owners.
From January 2008 to February 2009, Richard was Vice-President Communications and Public Affairs for Tembec. He was instrumental in the $1.2B recapitalization transaction, while providing strategic advice on the company's repositioning and rebranding strategy as well as Tembec's spokesperson.
From 1997 to 2001, Richard was Director Project Development at Gaz Métropolitain. He had also directed the Government and Public Affairs Department for the same company. Between 1991 and 1996 he carried out numerous responsibilities with the Government of Quebec as Legal Advisor on constitutional affairs, Advisor on energy policy, as well as being Deputy negotiator in regards to Aboriginal Affairs.
Richard Fahey holds a Master's in Public Administration and a Master's in International Affairs from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also earned a baccalaureate in law from the University of Montréal and has been a member of the Québec Bar since 1990.
He presides over La Fondation Georges O'Donoughue. He is the father of one son.
