Brien Gray is Executive Vice-President at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. CFIB is Canada's largest small business advocacy organization with a membership of 108,000 small- and medium-sized independent businesses across the country. As EVP, Brien ensures member and Field input into CFIB's planning processes, including market identification, Executive Committee and the Board of Governors. In addition, Brien has responsibility for developing and implementing CFIB policy in matters relating to the financial services industry including banks and insurance.
Brien has taught an MBA course on Entrepreneurship at the School for Administrative Studies at York University. He has been a consultant/advisor on entrepreneurial initiatives in the public and private sectors. In addition, he has served on a wide number of business-government boards and committees. He has just completed six years of service as a member of the Board of Governors at Humber College in Etobicoke, the last two as Chair of that Board. In 1994 Brien served as Co-Chair of the federal government's private sector Working Committee on Small Business, an appointment made by Ministers Paul Martin and John Manley. In early 1995 Brien was asked by Hon. Art Eggleton to serve as Business Co-Chair on the federal joint private-public sector forum on paper burden reduction-a process which lasted two years. He has also been active in the community serving as a member of the board of a number of for profit and not for profit organizations.
Brien holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and a BA from Bishop's University with further studies at the Université Aix-Marseilles in Aix-en-Provence, France.
He lives in Toronto with his wife Barbara, his two children Rebecca and Adam and his two Great Danes.
