Retired union employees protest union…

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) is now realizing what CFIB's known all along - public sector pensions are costly.

Retired SGEU employees are protesting the union because their fixed pensions are being cut. Though both groups had originally agreed on the amount of the decrease, the retirees are now being told the amount will have to be doubled.

The SGEU's current situation is one that we've seen coming. Public sector pension costs are unsustainable. Though CFIB is not suggesting governments remove pension benefits from current retirees or those who have earned them, we do think that something needs to be done soon.
