On April 1, 2013 businesses across BC will once again begin collecting and remitting the Provincial Sales Tax (PST). The BC Government has announced that the PST will come back into legislation in the exact same format as it left three years prior. While the small business community has mixed feelings regarding the return to PST, it is coming back and most businesses will be affected.

HST referendum results mean return to PST

British Columbians voters have voted 54.7 per cent in favour of returning to the PST/GST. The results of this referendum are binding. The BC Government says it will restore the Provincial Sales Tax at seven per cent on March 31, 2013. It is now time to work toward ensuring the government provides clear communications for small business owners through the transition, and improves the PST. For many of our members, the previous version of the tax was a regulatory nightmare.
 

Municipal property taxes - small business feels the squeeze

Small business owners across BC pay on average, 300 per cent what residential owners pay for the same value property, according to the latest report issued by CFIB. This is money small business owners ought to be investing in job growth, training and innovation. Instead, it's going to paying an unfair share of the tax burden.
