Fixing the way Canada sets EI rates

The federal government launched an EI rate setting review to find out how to avoid surpluses or deficits while ensuring that the program breaks even over time. CFIB’s President presented to the panel how EI rate setting can be improved in order to have stable rates.

A new federal bill, C-317 (introduced by Conservative MP Russ Hiebert) aims to get labour unions to be more transparent in how they spend their union dues. The election was avoided by a last-minute deal to have a blue-ribbon panel of Liberal and Conservative appointees investigate EI issues and report back in the Fall.
