Small business optimism slowly inching upward in New Brunswick

February 1, 2012
Optimism among Canadian small and mid-size businesses continues to improve, but at a glacial pace. CFIB’s Business Barometer Index ended January at 65.2—just slightly above the 65.0 registered in December and not enough to be a statistically significant movement.

Business optimism virtually unchanged in New Brunswick

December 7, 2011
Small business confidence saw little change in the month of November according to CFIB’s latest survey. The National Business Barometer index was 63.7, virtually identical to October’s 63.6 reading. This level is still lower than normal, however, as overhanging concerns about the potential spread of economic weakness out of Europe appear to be still at play.

Business optimism in NB still sputtering

November 2, 2011
The national index of CFIB’s Business Barometer™ for the month measured in at a modest 63.6, marginally higher than September’s 62.7 and the 61.7 level posted in August when the latest round of sovereign debt and banking sector worries from Europe started washing around the world.

Business confidence moves sideways

October 6, 2011
After tumbling sharply downward in August, small business confidence in Canada held its own in September. CFIB’s Business Barometer Index was 62.7 for the month, up a point from its August level, but still well below the near-70 mark for most of early 2011. CFIB’s Business Barometer Index dropped to 61.7 last month from its July level of 68.3—the lowest reading since July 2009.

August 3, 2011
Following two months of slippage, confidence among Canada’s small and mid-sized businesses rebounded in July. CFIB’s Business Barometer® Index rose two points to 68.3—about the same level it had been holding early in the year. For the most part, it appears Canadian business owners are not expecting much backwash from the sovereign debt uncertainties in Europe and the US.

Business confidence among Canada’s small business owners fell slightly in June. CFIB’s national Business Barometer® Index came in at 66.3 last month, down from 66.9 in May and its 70.7 April peak.
