CFIB's take on corporate income tax debate

Both the Conservatives and the Liberals have been outlining their tax priorities in recent days citing CFIB's positions on a number of issues. To set the record straight, both parties are correct in some respects. CFIB does support the continuation of already announced corporate income tax cuts. We also feel that further action is needed on payroll taxes, notably Employment Insurance premiums that increased on January 1, 2011.

Every year the PEI government gets to take advantage of inflation- wages go up, the cost of living goes up but tax brackets and the amount Islanders get to keep tax-free (the basic personal amount) stays the same. It’s time for government to protect taxpayers from inflation.
