Municipal operating expenditures in British Columbia continue to increase at an unsustainably high rate. This overspending comes at the expense of families, small businesses, and other commercial ratepayers through property tax
increases, user fee hikes, and higher transfer payments from senior levels of government.

With few exceptions, operating spending at the local level in BC has grown at rates that greatly exceed population and inflation growth since 2000. These spending increases have been financed through substantial growth in property taxes, user fees, and transfers from senior levels of government.
