Latest readings show that business owners’ optimism continues to drift downward. CFIB’s Business Barometer Index fell modestly to 65.7 in July, compared to 66.4 in June—its third decline in the past four months. Falling in 8 of 13 industry groupings and 7 of 10 provinces, these estimates suggest the economy is settling into a phase of slower growth.

Optimism among Canada's small- and mid-sized business owners dipped slightly in June. CFIB's Business Barometer® Index finished the month at 66.4, down about a point from May's 67.3 level. This latest reading is at the lower end of the average over the last 10 months, and suggest that economic output is growing only at a modest 2.5 per cent clip.
