Many members like you have received letters from the Ministry of Environment, asking you to register with RecycleBC (formerly Multi-Materials British Columbia) for bringing paper and packaging products (PPP) like cardboard, plastic, and paper into the province.
Not so fast.
The reality is, some companies may need to register, report, and pay associated recycling fees. But we have fought for—and obtained!—exemptions that your company may be eligible for.
Find out if you could be exempt
You do not have to register with RecycleBC if any of the following apply to you:
- Your business is a charity
- Your annual gross revenues are under $1,000,000
- You produce less than 1 tonne of PPP
- You operate as a single point of sale (i.e. you are not a franchise or have multiple locations)
If you receive a letter from the Ministry of Environment, or RecycleBC, you can respond by informing them of the exemptions you fall under.
If you are still unsure of your status, or need assistance with MMBC, reach out to CFIB Counsellors!
