WorkSafeBC: time for a refund?

How much is too much?

WorkSafeBC is an insurance board that is entirely funded by business owners. And now, the Board’s assets exceed liabilities by $6.4 billion.

Clearly, this is beyond a reasonable cushion. For years, we have called on the Board to return some of that money to you - the business owner who funds this program. Instead of issuing a refund to employers in past years, the Board has decided to sit on the cash.
On August 1st, we delivered nearly 4,000 of your petitions to WorkSafeBC in our meeting with the Chair of the Board and the President of the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB)!

These petitions make a big difference, so thank you if you’ve sent one in.

However, there is still work to be done!

During our meeting with WorkSafeBC it became clear there are no current plans for a refund. We pushed on the issue and the Chair has promised to bring the issue to the Board, but it is up to us to hold him accountable.

The Board needs to hear directly from business owners that this is an important issue, with very real effects on small business. To let the Board know you want a refund, you can fill out this online form! You can also sign our Action Alert and we will be sure to continue to send these through to the Board.

CFIB’s informal motto is never give up, never go away. And that’s exactly what we’ll do. Despite no immediate refund, this is an important issue and we are going to keep the battle going. Stay tuned for further information on what we are going to do to get you your money!
