St. John’s, NL, October 29, 2026 – Jonathan Galgay, Director of Legislative Affairs, Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) Newfoundland and Labrador, issued the following statement in response to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador tabling the Regulatory Improvement and Efficiency Act:

“CFIB welcomes the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s decision to table the Regulatory Improvement and Efficiency Act today.

This legislation is the result of CFIB’s long-standing advocacy on behalf of small business owners across the province, and our ongoing dialogue with the Premier and Cabinet on the need to reduce red tape and strengthen regulatory accountability.

Red tape is a hidden tax that falls hardest on small businesses. Every hour spent on unnecessary paperwork is an hour taken away from serving customers, supporting employees and growing the local economy.

CFIB commends the Premier and Cabinet for their leadership and looks forward to reviewing the legislation to ensure it delivers meaningful, lasting results for the province’s entrepreneurs.”
