Pohlmann to discuss labour shortage, pathway to permanent residency for TFWs

Toronto, May 11, 2016 – Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) senior vice president, national affairs and partnerships, Corinne Pohlmann, will be presenting to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities in Ottawa on Wednesday between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.

Pohlmann will be discussing the committee’s study of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

Pohlmann will cover the following topics during her presentation:

  • The growing labour shortage faced by Canada’s small- and medium-sized businesses
  • Who uses the temporary foreign worker program
  • Myths about the program
  • Developing more pathways to permanent residency for temporary foreign workers, including those in lower-skilled/entry-level categories, by creating an “Introduction to Canada Visa” and expanding the “Express Entry” system to include lower-skilled/entry level worker
