Crime Severity Index by Province

The Crime Severity Index decreased in Newfoundland and Labrador (-4%), Nova Socita (-3%) and Prince Edward Island (-6%). It increased in New Brunswick (-6%).

I am concerned. Crime in my community is increasing. It’s impacting my business, and I worry about the safety of my employees and customers.

I'm calling on governments to:

  • Ensure police and the justice system have the tools and resources needed to respond effectively to crime affecting small businesses.
  • Take repeat and chronic offending seriously and strengthen consequences for those who
    repeatedly target businesses and communities.
  • Improve coordination between police, prosecutors and the justice system so reported crimes
    are addressed consistently and effectively.
  • Work with the small business community on practical measures to improve safety for business owners, employees and customers.
