STOP SQUEEZING MY SMALL BUSINESS!

Your government adds too much cost on my payroll!

MY BUSINESS IS BEING CRUSHED!

  • Highest Workers’ Compensation Premiums in Canada
  • Arbitrary minimum wage hikes that drive up all wages
  • 14% higher contribution than employees on EI and 50% on CPP

NOVA SCOTIA HAS THE THIRD HIGHEST GOVERNMENT-IMPOSED LABOUR COSTS IN THE COUNTRY. ONLY QUEBEC AND BRITISH COLUMBIA ARE HIGHER.

A bar chart comparing Workers Compensation premiums in Canada. Canada average is shown as 1.40 in grey, Quebec is shown as 1.47 in yellow, and Nova Scotia is shown as 2.65 in dark pink. A heading notes 20 years of the highest premiums in Canada. A ranked table titled Heading in the wrong direction showing OECD 2022 minimum wage percentages of median wages. Nova Scotia ranks fifth at 66.80. A note indicates that without indexation to 66 percent of the median wage, Nova Scotia could move closer to higher ranked countries.

Hon. Nolan Young, Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration

CC: Hon. Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia

I am concerned. My labour costs are being held high, or increased artificially, by your government.

To help small businesses like mine, I am urging you to:

  • Stop the arbitrary minimum wage increases.
  • Tie future minimum wage increases to the median wage.
  • Force the WCB Board to accelerate its costs reductions.
  • Not add new WCB benefits until employer premiums are reduced to the Canadian average.
  • Not pull small businesses under three employees into the WCB system.
