Paid to retire early: pension bridge benefit an unfair perk for government workers

This report looks at the bridge benefit perk for government workers.

Some government workers are offered a financial incentive to retire early. The “bridge benefit” allows them to claim their pension early and penalty free. CFIB research found that the perk amounts to $8,000 per person using it in 2015. In 2010-11, 55,000 federal civil servants received the perk at a total cost of more than $385 million.
