Occupational Health and Safety has made some changes to its first aid requirements for businesses in PEI.
First Aid Training
All “low hazard” businesses with one or more employees are now required to have at least one first aid provider with Emergency First Aid certification.
In other businesses, the requirements are:
- More than one but less than 20 workers: One first aid provider with Emergency First Aid certification
- More than 20 but less than 100 workers: One first aid provider with Standard First Aid certification
- More than 100 workers: one first aid provider with Advanced First Aid certification as well as a designated first aid room

First Aid Kits
First aid kits are now required for all workplaces with at least one worker per shift. Kit contents vary depending on how many workers you have:
These kits should be checked regularly to ensure they as still complete and any expired contents are replaced.
First Aid Records
When first aid is provided, make sure you have a written record that includes:
- the name of the injured worker,
- the date and time of the injury,
- a description of the injury,
- the first aid treatment administered,
- a description of the incident causing the injury,
- the date and time when first aid was administered,
- the name of the first aid provider, and
- the name of the person to whom the worker reported the injury
These records should be retained for three years.
