What is a customs broker?
A customs broker specializes in the field of importing regulations. Because of their knowledge of the importing process, verified by their license, they often work directly with CBSA, prepare and remit documentation and remit payment of duties and taxes on behalf of the importer. Letting them work directly with CBSA makes importing more streamlined for owners like you!
What if the things I import are valued under $3,300?
The CBSA offers a Courier Low-Value Shipment (CLVS) Program for importing commercial goods valued at $3,300 CAD or less. This program streamlines the reporting, releasing and accounting procedures for certain goods brought into Canada by courier. Your shipment can be part of the CLVS Program if:
- The goods are worth $3,300 Canadian or less;
- The courier company handling your shipment is authorized by CBSA to participate in CLVS; and,
- The goods are not prohibited, regulated or controlled (e.g. narcotics).
