CFIB Applauds Alberta’s Red Tape Reduction Efforts to Help Small Businesses Succeed
We’re all about making life easier for small business owners, and Alberta’s new Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2025 (No. 2) is a welcome step in the right direction.
Since 2019, the province has eliminated more than 220,000 unnecessary rules, saving Albertans and businesses over $3 billion. This latest legislation builds on that progress, cutting even more red tape so entrepreneurs can focus on what really matters: running and growing their businesses.
CFIB has long championed these efforts, advocating for Alberta’s ambitious one-third red tape reduction target and working closely with government to identify regulatory pain points. Through initiatives like our annual Red Tape Report Card, we continue to hold governments accountable and push for meaningful change that benefits small businesses.
One of the most impactful changes from the legislation is on labour mobility. By removing unnecessary Canadian work experience requirements for Albertans in regulated professions and setting clear timelines for registration decisions, the province is helping small businesses hire the workers they need faster and with fewer headaches.
Our Director of Alberta & Interprovincial Affairs, Keyli Loeppky was quoted alongside the Government of Alberta’s news release on the legislation, saying:
“The Alberta government continues to lead on red tape reduction. Reaching the one-third reduction target was a significant achievement, but it’s great to see the commitment does not stop there. Continued efforts to cut unnecessary rules and streamline processes makes life easier for small businesses and Albertans – saving time, reducing costs and keeping Alberta competitive while fostering growth and thriving communities.”
As Red Tape Awareness Week (RTAW) approaches in January 2026, we look forward to sharing how Alberta scored this year.
At CFIB, we’ll keep pushing for smart, practical rules that help small businesses grow. If this kind of advocacy and support would help your business, join CFIB today.
