Highlights of the Canadian Prime Minister and Premiers Meeting, June 2025
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister and the Premiers of every province and territory (also known as the First Ministers) met in Saskatchewan to discuss a plan for building a stronger Canada.
The Highlights of the Meeting
1. The Commitment to Breaking Down Interprovincial Trade Barriers: Although there has been recognition of recent progress, it was agreed that more needs to be done to facilitate interprovincial trade, starting with a promise to unlock multilateral, economy-wide mutual recognition and labour mobility.
2, Wrapping Up the Mutual Recognition Agreement by December 2025: The Committee on Internal Trade was advised to complete their comprehensive examination on consumer goods that would allow a good accepted in one province to be accepted in all provinces too.
3. A Canada-wide Labour Mobility and Credential Recognition Standard: The ability for professionals to move and work across provinces will get easier with the promise to implement a 30-day service standard across the country – meaning workers will receive the green light on their credentials, or be told they can’t work without further training, within 30 days of applying to work in another province or territory.
4. The Expansion of the Trucking Pilot Program Across Canada: The Ministers of Transport will expand the trucking pilot program with the intention of moving goods more efficiently and adopting regulations to use across the board.
5. The “One Project, One Review” Policy: This system will improve efficiency on projects between federal and provincial governments.
