Making Budget 2026 Work for Small Businesses

With Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) looking ahead to the budget in the spring, we are gathering our pre-budget asks ahead of the announcement. Our data shows that taxes remain the top concern, with 67% of business owners saying the overall tax burden is their biggest cost challenge. Beyond taxes, what else are entrepreneurs asking for from the provincial government in the 2026 budget? We would love to hear from you and what asks you would like to see included in PEI’s 2026 budget. Send an email to Frédéric Gionet to make your voice heard.

We have made it clear to government that when small businesses receive tax relief, they reinvest it directly into their operations through  wage increases, equipment upgrades and productivity improvements. These investments don’t just benefit the businesses themselves, but they strengthen communities and the broader PEI economy.

For the 2026 Budget, CFIB is asking the provincial government to keep the small business tax rate at 1%, to raise the small business tax threshold to $700,000 and index it to inflation going forward, and develop a long-term plan to make general corporate taxes more competitive. We are also calling for  rising deficits to be addressed responsibly to prevent future tax hikes on small businesses.

We will continue to push for policies that reflect the realities of running a business on PEI and fight for the support entrepreneurs deserve as Budget 2026 approaches.

If this type of advocacy matters to you and your business, join CFIB today to make your voice heard and access the resources, support, and advocacy that help small businesses evolve.
