Where is Canada’s 2025 Federal Budget? Small Business Owners Need Answers Now

Mark Carney’s new Liberal government is holding off on announcing a budget until the Fall, once Parliament starts up again after the summer break.

We’re calling for a federal budget, sooner than later, to address tax measures that were promised to help small business owners in the 2024 budget and the Fall Economic Statement. The legislation is ready to go, but due to several disruptions in Parliament over the last year, these measures haven’t been passed yet, and small businesses are suffering.

A carbon tax nightmare on the horizon.

While the government has publicly promised to ensure that the Canadian Carbon Rebates for small businesses will be tax free, there has been no legislation introduced to ensure it. Without legislation, the CRA is recognizing the rebates as taxable government assistance.

Without a budget to clear up the tax status, 600,000 small business owners will be required to file their corporate income taxes incorrectly and then to amend their tax returns later in the year.

Talk about red tape!
