Alberta Budget 2026: CFIB available to comment

Calgary, February 25, 2026 – The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) will be available for comment prior to and after the release of Alberta’s budget tomorrow. CFIB will be closely analysing tomorrow’s budget with respect to policies that support small business.

Over eight in ten (82%) Alberta small business owners say they want to see government place the highest priority on reducing the overall tax burden, while nearly three-quarters (73%) want to see the government prioritize addressing rising prices and the cost of doing business, according to a recent CFIB survey.

CFIB has made several recommendations to the Alberta government, urging it to focus on reducing the cost of doing business by:

  • Reducing the small business tax rate to 0% and increasing the threshold to $700,000, indexed to inflation;
  • Rebalancing the education property tax and limiting municipal property tax increases through legislation;
  • Lowering insurance premium taxes from 4% to 2%;
  • Avoiding increases to the minimum wage;
  • Coordinating action on crime and community safety from all three levels of government, including practical support such as security rebate programs;
  • Reducing red tape, including changes to the Ad Valorem Wine Tax.

Keyli Loeppky, Alberta Provincial Affairs Director, will be available in the rotunda of the legislature to speak to media following the Throne Speech.
