CFIA Report Card: Assessing Regulatory Burden and Service Delivery for SMEs

In today’s highly competitive environment it is more important than ever for governments to foster a business environment that supports growth and competitiveness. Yet currently, many small business operations are hindered by Canada’s complex regulatory landscape. Notably, food-related businesses are among the most heavily regulated, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) responsible for a significant share of that burden. The CFIA is the federal agency responsible for administering and enforcing food safety and quality standards and regulations.
