Montreal and Eastern US Port Strikes: What They Mean For Your Business
As of September 30th at 7am, workers at the Port of Montreal’s two terminals (Viau and Maisonneuve Termont terminals) began a three-day strike, currently expected to last until October 3rd.
As the largest port in Eastern Canada, many small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) depend on the port for their supply chains. A disruption means delivery delays, production slowdowns, and ultimately, a hit to their bottom lines.
Are you affected by this strike? Or have you been affected by one of the many recent ones? Let us know how at OttawaCFIB@cfib.ca so we can continue to put pressure on government and better advocate for you!
It’s important to note that this strike mirrors a similar situation developing in the East Coast of the US, where thousands of workers are preparing to strike as of Tuesday, October 1st at 12am EST. Supply chains between the US and Canada are highly integrated, and even an interruption of a few days could be catastrophic for Canadian businesses for weeks to come. We urge business owners to keep an eye on this developing situation and prepare for the worst.
