Access financial incentives when hiring apprentices in Québec
Hiring an apprentice can connect you with an employee that has knowledge of cutting-edge technologies and concepts to help your business stay competitive. Government knows apprenticeship is important for our economy and provides incentives to offset the costs of apprenticeship. Here are opportunities for the employer and individual apprentices:
- Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit (AJCTC): If you hire an eligible apprentice, you can claim this non-refundable tax credit equal to 10 per cent of the eligible salaries and wages payable to the apprentice in respect to employment after May 1, 2006. The maximum credit is $2,000 per year for each apprentice.
- Programme d'apprentissage en milieu de travail (Workplace Training Program) This program offered by Emploi-Québec leads to professional certification in a variety of trades following a training program conducted in the workplace under the guidance of a mentor. (French only)
- La mesure de formation de la main-d'oeuvre (Workplace Training Initiative) This program offered by Emploi-Québec provides technical or financial assistance in training needs assessment, project implementation and training evaluation. (French only)
- Tax Credit for an On-the-Job Training Period This tax credit is available to any company that has incurred expenses to train apprentices under the Programme d'apprentissage en milieu de travail (Workplace Training Program) or to hire a student registered full-time in a recognized learning establishment.
