Victim of directory scam? Competition Bureau sues deceptive marketing companies and wins!
Last July 28th, 2011, the Competition Bureau took action against five companies believed to have violated the Competition Act by engaging in deceptive marketing practices. These companies tricked businesses into thinking they were renewing legitimate Yellow Pages contracts. Some businesses ended up paying thousands of dollars to these companies.
On March 2nd, 2012, the Competition Bureau won the lawsuit. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice declared that all such contracts are null and void and that money must be set aside to make restitution to those that can prove they were victims of the fraud.
