CFIB Special Rate with Mastercard

As an independent business owner, you play a critical role in fueling the Canadian economy and your local community. Recognizing your important contribution, and the collective buying power of CFIB’s 109,000 members who generate over $3 billion in Mastercard sales each year — Mastercard Canada has agreed to match its top tier rates for CFIB members — rates otherwise reserved for a handful of Canada’s largest merchants. This is an exclusive offer reserved for current and new members of CFIB.

12.5% savings represents the difference between Core Electronic and Core Volume Tier 1 rates applicable to face-to-face transactions.  Specific merchant savings may be lower or higher depending on transactional activity and card type.

Starting April 3, 2017, CFIB members can get the same rate as individual merchants with over $3 billion in Mastercard sales. This represents a 12.5% savings from Mastercard’s base “electronic” rate, and as much as a 22% savings on some premium cards. And to be clear, these savings are in addition to the exceptional payment processing rates already provided to CFIB members by Chase Paymentech.

"This new agreement with Mastercard is a big deal for small business,” said Dan Kelly, President of CFIB. "It gives members access to transaction rates that reflect their combined sales of more than $3 billion, and lowers their cost of acceptance. This is a significant step forward in Canada’s payment industry and serves as an important sign of progress in the relationship between payment companies, like Mastercard, and smaller merchants,” Kelly concluded.
