Victory! Crossing the Bridge to Lower Costs for Atlantic Entrepreneurs

Things are looking up for small businesses in Prince Edward Island after a visit from the Prime Minister yesterday, who announced that tolls on the Confederation Bridge will drop starting August 1 - bridging the gap to lower costs and better connections for local small business owners.

This is what can be expected:

  • Starting August 1, small businesses will see real savings on transportation costs.
  • Confederation Bridge tolls drop: All vehicle rates fall from $50.25 to $20, including commercial vehicles.
  • Ferry tolls reduced by 50%: Businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Atlantic Canada will pay less to ship goods and travel.
  • Bigger impact: These changes make it more affordable for entrepreneurs to move products and keep communities connected.

We’re proud that our tireless advocacy helped build bridges, and now Ottawa is making it more affordable to cross them. This is a big win for small businesses on the Island, whether it’s the potato farmers, tourism operators making the most of the summer season, or any business that relies on the bridge to connect with customers and markets.

We worked hard to highlight how tolls were affecting local businesses, backed by research showing that 76% of our members wanted the tolls removed. By raising our collective voice, we made sure the government took notice. This victory demonstrates the power of small businesses coming together and working alongside leaders from all levels of government to create real change. We’re proud of this achievement and remain committed to fighting for lower costs and better opportunities for businesses across the region.
