Recent CFIB snapshot highlights significant compliance challenges for Canadian agri-businesses. Findings indicate that 68% of respondents would not advise the next generation to run a business, and 89% believe the future of Canadian agriculture is at risk due to regulatory burden.
In addition, 95% experience stress related to regulatory requirements, 90% report negative impacts on productivity and growth, and 70% believe competitiveness is constrained.
The most frequently cited areas of concern include federal requirements such as Statistics Canada surveys (52%), provincial environmental regulations (60%), and municipal building and renovation permitting processes (65%).
CFIB recommends that governments systematically measure and report the total regulatory burden, establish mechanisms for continuous stakeholder input, streamline through a "two-for-one" rule, and reduce complexity by providing clearer compliance guidance.
