Training staff? The Building Up Manitoba Program could help!

The Building Up Manitoba Program (BUMP) is designed to help small- and medium-sized businesses build stronger workforces and provide Manitoba workers training to increase their skills and job readiness. 

The Program

BUMP is a 50% cost-shared program to help offset the cost of employee training, human resources strategy, or curriculum development. 

  • Funding can be used to train current, laid off, or unemployed workers.
  • Employers can receive up $10,000 per employee under the Employee Training Stream, and/or
  • Up to $25,000 under the Human Resources Strategy Development Stream
  • Maximum of $100,00 across both streams
  • Funding agreements run for the fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) in which the business applies
Eligibility
Businesses must: 
  • Be for-profit, including corporations, sole proprietorships, and partnerships
  • Have fewer than 500 full-time equivalent employees (including businesses related by ownership)
  • Be permanently established in Manitoba
  • Have been fully operational for at least a year at the time of applying
  • Intend to hire or continue to employ training recipients at the end of training
Training participants must be:
  • Currently employed by the applying employer; or
  • Laid off; or
  • Unemployed (for more than one month); or
  • Underemployed (employed part-time or in temporary, casual or seasonal employment); and
  •  A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Currently reside in Manitoba
Program Streams:
Employee Training activities must achieve at least one of the three following objectives:
  • Result in a job for a laid off, unemployed, or underemployed person
  • Result in a better job for the current employee
  • Lead to increased job security for the current employee
Human Resources Strategy Development supports business in strengthening their workforce capacity. The stream is designed to help employers identify workforce needs and put strategies in place to support business growth.
