245 - Message from the Vice-President

November 30, 2011
As we approach the Xmas season, it is timely to review the highlights of the last few months. Despite some uncertainty, the Canadian economy has stayed the course. This is due in large part to the perseverance of entrepreneurs like you who steadfastly pursue their business goals.

244 - Pension Tension campaign launched

September 28, 2011
In June 2012, the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) will undergo a major review. Seven provinces, the unions as well as the official opposition are pushing for a CPP hike in one form or another. Even the federal government’s 2011 budget leaves the door open to a potential hike in this job-killing payroll tax.

243 - CFIB is 40. Let’s celebrate!

June 2, 2011
What a difference 40 years makes! Before CFIB, small- and medium-sized businesses were a mere afterthought in the minds of political leaders, government bureaucrats, bankers, educators, journalists and others. Now, in 2011, the entrepreneurial sector is considered a priority by decision makers, having grown to represent close to half of the Canadian economy.

242 - Message from the Vice-President

March 3, 2011
Ants can move mountains, my mother used to say. Whether you are running a business or a leading lobbying organization like CFIB, you must persevere in the face of delays and keep a positive attitude despite obstacles. And that is just what has been called for in the battle against red tape that we have been leading for several years.

241 - Message from the Vice-President

December 1, 2010
As this year draws to a close, it's time to take stock! This year has been an eventful one, to say the least. It was marked by an important victory on the EI file, intensive lobbying with regard to taxes and paper burden affecting small business, not to mention specific issues related to collective agreements as well as logbooks for automobile expenses mandated by Revenu Québec.

240 - A busy fall season

September 1, 2010
As you know, CFIB constantly strives to represent the interests of its members, against all odds, no matter which government is in power.

239 - Vice President’s Message

May 31, 2010
I am really excited about my new role as Vice-President, Quebec for CFIB. Joining CFIB is actually joining a force of 24,000 independent business owners in Quebec who are helping to build a prosperous society, day by day. I want you to know that I am deeply honoured to have been given this opportunity.

238 - Over to you, Mr. Minister

March 10, 2010
On December 7, I met with Quebec’s Minister of Finance, Raymond Bachand, to drop-off 7,685 petitions that our members sent in order to push for reduced payroll taxes. In our pre-budget presentation, not only did I inform him of your needs, but I also stressed the importance of putting money back into your pockets to ensure you share the same competitive advantages as businesses in neighbouring provinces.

237 - Small victories with big impacts. CRA agents now more accountable!

December 2, 2009
Will Santa Claus bring gifts for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) for all their hard work during the current recession? Will they receive payroll tax cuts in the next budget for their role in maintaining employment levels while big businesses were laying off their staff left, right and centre?
