Government improves Temporary Foreign Worker Program
We have been lobbying the federal government to make the Temporary Foreign Worker Program more responsive to the needs of employers. In particular, we have been pressing the government to reduce the paper burden and speed up processing times.
As a result, the Government of Canada has just announced that employers with a strong track record will now be eligible to receive an accelerated Labour Market Opinion (LMO) within 10 business days to allow them to hire temporary foreign workers in high-skilled positions. It is important to know, however, that employers using the accelerated process will have to consent to random, risk-based compliance reviews after the LMO is issued.
