Suzanne Bona
Suzanne has learned every facet of Scotian Homes and Enfield Hardware Ltd., from retail sales management through to business and product development all of which have played a part in her training for her current position of president and owner. The second generation to lead the company, Suzanne took over the management role in 2003 from her father and company founder Bob Bona. Although times have changed, the vision remains steadfast: build superior quality homes to suit Nova Scotians’ lifestyles.
Suzanne is fluent in German and French and some Spanish, languages she learned specifically to facilitate the company’s successful, European activities over the past decade. She has earned degrees in arts and business administration from St. Francis Xavier University as well as a diploma in international business and marketing from St. Mary’s University.
Community and industry service has been a priority. Suzanne organized the expansion and renovation of Adsum House for Women and Children Centre in Halifax, undertaken by Scotian Homes and dozens of their industry partners. Suzanne also served on the boards of many organizations, including the Canadian Home Builders’ Association at the local and national levels, the Urban Development Institute Council, serving as treasurer of the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association, currently serves as a board of director for the Better Business Bureau of Maritime Provinces, Atlantic Home Warranty, and Board of Governors of the Nova Scotia Community College and Chair of the Programs Committee for the Nova Scotia Community College and Chair of the Enfield Earthkeepers.
One of Suzanne’s most proud accomplishments is the creation of Enfield Earthkeepers; a continually growing group of youths providing services to the community including yard work and odd jobs. This program requires the youths to volunteer one hour for every four paid hours, helping to teach them the need to give back to and respect one’s community.
