The Pay Equity Act has changed. Let's stay informed !
On December 7, I met with Quebec’s Minister of Finance, Raymond Bachand, to drop-off 7,685 petitions that our members sent in order to push for reduced payroll taxes. In our pre-budget presentation, not only did I inform him of your needs, but I also stressed the importance of putting money back into your pockets to ensure you share the same competitive advantages as businesses in neighbouring provinces. He was very surprised by the number of small business owners who sent him this message!
By the time you read these words, the 2010 budget may well have been released. We’ll know then whether this government has dared to make a push for growth or has simply adopted an accounting approach by raising taxes and fees. If the government heeds our call, we will gladly credit them with taking a step in the right direction. If not, we will continue to fight for our members’ best interests! CFIB won’t take no for an answer. Let us not forget that we were the only organization to have asked for a decrease in the tax rate which was eventually reduced from 8.5 to 8 per cent in 2007.
