2011 proclaimed as Year of the Entrepreneur

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and CFIB sign proclamation, declaring 2011 as Year of the Entrepreneur

 

St. John's, September 6, 2011 - Today, the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) director of provincial affairs, Bradley George, in signing a proclamation that declares 2011 as Year of the Entrepreneur.

Earlier this year, the Government of Canada adopted a recommendation from CFIB, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF), celebrating its 15^th anniversary, in declaring 2011 Year of the Entrepreneur, nation-wide. Since then, seven other provinces have made similar declarations.

"With the signing of this proclamation, the provincial government is formally acknowledging the valuable contribution that small business plays in our province," said George, adding, "our entrepreneurs are the heart and soul of our provincial economy. They are not only job creators, but are also leaders within their communities."

"With small businesses accounting for 97 per cent of all business in Newfoundland and Labrador, we give credit to the provincial government for recognizing the major contributions of entrepreneurs who drive employment and the economy," concluded George.
