Small business welcomes new Canada-US agreement on borders and trade

CFIB welcomes the new declaration on perimeter security and economic competitiveness announced today by Prime Minister Harper and US President Obama. For many years, CFIB has been very active on border and trade issues and has lobbied to ensure that low-risk, low-volume trade by Canadian smaller firms is not overlooked.  CFIB is particularly pleased that the agreement creates a Regulatory Cooperation Council that will look at ways to harmonize and simplify regulations between Canada and the US.  CFIB has highlighted the need for regulatory reform in its recent Red Tape Awareness Week, which resulted in the Red Tape Reduction Commission. Given CFIB's leadership position on red tape, we will provide input to both governments on regulatory cooperation in the weeks ahead.
