A Call to Action
Ontario agri-business post-election roadmap
In a recent CFIB survey the majority of our Ontario agri-business members told us they plan to pass their operations to a successor within the next 10 years. Only half of them, however, have a succession plan. Most farmers have challenges in identifying a suitable successor and many find the process too complex or too time consuming.
Global economic uncertainty and rising input costs, coupled with higher payroll taxes and burdensome regulations are some of the external factors that additionally slow down farm succession. Ontario farmers realize there is little government can do to solve the global market issues, however, it can certainly take steps to reduce taxes, red tape and to improve business risk management (BRM) programs and labour relations.
Our new report, "A Call to Action" (top right) takes a detailed look at our agri-business member's expectations of the newly re-elected provincial government and offers policy recommendations that could help Ontario farmers plan for the future with more confidence.
